Re: Nico Hülkemberg
Germany's high five
Saturday, February 03, 2007 A1 Team Germany has taken its fifth win of the 2006/07 season winning the A1GP Sydney, Australia Sprint race ahead of New Zealand and France, so when the team lines up on pole for the Feature race it will be its fourth consecutive A1GP start from this coveted position. A1 Team Germany made a clean start to the race, pulling ahead of second placed New Zealand who was immediately put under pressure by Great Britain. After the two cars touched wheels at turn three, New Zealand was forced to concede and the red, white and blue car of Great Britain overtook Black Beauty into turn four. New Zealand’s Jonny Reid said: ‘On the first start I had to lift through turn one because Nico was in front and I had pretty much no downforce thanks to going through the disturbed air. I went to defend but Robbie got me on the outside. I gave him racing room but then we touched going through turn three, and I almost held him out as I had the inside line for four and five. It was a bit of luck I was able to come back on the re-start and on the lights I got second. For the next race as usual we are representing our countries so we will both do our best. The championship is at stake so we need to focus on this but we will race hard and fair.’ As the field entered the second lap there was little change from their original starting positions with Netherlands, Malaysia, Czech Republic, Mexico, Singapore, and Australia gaining a couple of positions as the field jostled for position. A spin from A1 Team Lebanon at turn eight saw the safety car deployed towards the end of lap five, bunching up the field for an exciting finale to the 20 minute race. As the safety car peeled off at the end of lap eight and the pack crossed the start/finish line, New Zealand made its move on Great Britain regaining second place into turn one. But that was not to be the end of Great Britain’s troubles as France made its move, overtaking Britain on the inside as it became increasingly obvious that driver Robbie Kerr was suffering from problems with the car. Mid-way through lap 13, Kerr slammed on the brakes and let the field pass, pulling into the pits with a punctured right front tyre, putting them towards the back of the grid for this afternoon’s Feature race. Winning driver Nico Hulkenberg commented: ‘I had a good rolling start and a good re-start after the Safety Car, but then it was not that easy as I just tried to focus on myself and push as hard as I could. First of all Jonny and then GBR were pushing from behind. There are some things which are not perfect, but it is hard to get the car perfect here because there is not a lot of rubber on the track, but we will try our best to improve the car.’ A1 Team France’s Loic Duval said: ‘I made a big mistake at the start of the race. The first corner is quite bumpy and I used three push to passes. The car was not perfect so we have to improve it a bit for this afternoon. We can now improve the car a little so I am sure it will be possible to fight for first place.’

Re: Nico Hülkemberg
Eastern Creek: Team Germany Saturday report
Racing series A1GP Date 2007-02-03 A1 Team Germany storms to second consecutive pole position Having clinched its first ever pole position in the A1 GP World Cup of Motorsport a fortnight ago in New Zealand, Willi Weber's A1 Team Germany continued its streak of success in the seventh round in Australia: Nominated driver Nico Hulkenberg conquered the top spot on the grid once again, starting from the first row for the third time this season after second spot in Brno in round two and first place in round six. In the first of four qualifying segments, Nico Hulkenberg achieved the second fastest time of 1m18.584s on the Eastern Creek circuit on new tyres. For the second run, he used the same set of tyres, posting the eighth fastest time of 1m19.683s. In his third run, the up-and-coming German driver lapped the 3.93 kilometre long Australian circuit in 1m18.263s. He set the fastest time of this segment and thus took the virtual lead in the classification of the aggregated times, pipping A1 Team New Zealand by a mere 44 thousandths of a second. In the fourth and final attempt, Nico Hulkenberg stormed to a stunning best time of 1m17.962s, extending his advantage to 0.216s ahead of New Zealander Jonny Reid whose car is engineered by David Sears Motorsport as well. A1 Team Germany was the only team to break the 1m18s lap time barrier. Nicolas Hulkenberg: "I'm happy to be on the pole position once again. In the first attempt, I didn't go quite to the limit. I spoiled my second attempt on used tyres when I was a bit too ambitious and run wide onto the grass. In the third attempt, we managed to set the best lap time on new tyres. For the final run, I knew where the limits were. The track was getting faster and faster thanks to the rubber on the tarmac, so I managed to improve my time once again. A big thanks to the David Sears motorsport team that improved my car between all the segments im terms of mechanically and aerodynamically induced grip. On Sunday, the four leading teams of the championship will start from the first two rows so the fans can expect a lot of tension." -credit: team germany

Romain Grosjean and Tom Dillmann to complete the ASM F3 quartet (F3 EUROSERIES)
Romain Grosjean and Tom Dillmann are going to complete the driver line-up signed by ASM Formule 3 for the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series season. They will team-up with Kamui Kobayashi and Nico Hülkenberg who had been confirmed as ASM Formule 23 drivers earlier, this year. Romain Grosjean will contest his second full Formula 3 Euro Series season. In 2006, he raced a Dallara-Mercedes entered by Team Signature-Plus and finished 13th in the overall standings. In the first round of the Oschersleben weekend he finished third, thus securing his best result so far, in the most competitive young gun series. Yet, in a guest appearance in his native France, he did even better: in the 2006 British Formula 3 Championship event held in Pau, Southern France, the French who was born in Switzerland and also possesses a Swiss passport celebrated back-to-back wins - his first and only Formula 3 wins to date. At the same time, Tom Dillmann hasn’t got any Formula 3 experience under his belt. He is the only rookie of the ASM Formule 3 line-up. Dillmann contested the 2006 Formula Renault Eurocup and finished eighth. The 17-year old from Mulhouse secured three podium finishes but failed to make it to the highest step of the podium. In the season finale, held at Barcelona, he delivered his best performance by finishing runner-up in both qualifying sessions and both races, with the new champion, Filipe Albuquerque, being the only man to defeat him, Just as Grosjean, he also secured his best result in his home country and in a championship he didn’t contest completely. Both at Le Mans and Magny-Cours, Dillman won a round of the French Formula Renault Championship round he competed in only sporadically. Romain Grosjean and Tom Dillmann are the first French drivers to race for French Team ASM since 2004. At that time, their compatriots, Alexandre Prémat and Eric Salignon, contested the Formula 3 Euro Series season with Dallara-Mercedes single-seaters entered by ASM.

Re: Nico Hülkemberg
AUSTRALIA : RESUMEN SPRINT & FEATURE RACES:

Hulkenberg slams home Sprint race victory
Racing series A1GP Date 2007-02-04 Team Germany's racer Nico Hulkenberg extended the team's points lead in the 2006/'07 A1 Grand Prix standings with his fifth victory this season in the World Cup of Motorsport. On the Eastern Creek circuit in Sydney, Australia, the hot-shoe German sailed to the Sprint race win on Sunday morning. Taking the lead from the pole position, Hulkenberg ran the 14 laps, beating Jonny Reid by 2.154 seconds. "I had a good rolling start," commented the winner. "I just tried to focus on myself and push as hard as I could. First of all Jonny and then GBR were pushing from behind. There are some things which are not perfect, but it is hard to get the car perfect here because there is not a lot of rubber on the track, but we will try our best to improve the car." Reid raced his Team New Zealand ride to second with over a five second edge over Team France's Loic Duval. "On the first start I had to lift through turn one because Nico was in front and I had pretty much no downforce thanks to going through the disturbed air," said Reid. While Duval hung on for third after using too much of his push to pass at the start. Team Great Britain's Robbie Kerr saw his first race of the day end in heartache. "I made a big mistake at the start of the race. The first corner is quite bumpy and I used three push to passes," said the Frenchman. "The car was not perfect so we have to improve it a bit for this afternoon. We can now improve the car a little so I am sure it will be possible to fight for first place." Reid and Kerr were side-by-side heading into Turn 3 3 on the opening lap with Kerr moving to second behind Team Germany. As the drivers were finding positions, Team Lebanon's Alex Khateeb spun and the field packed up behind the safety car on the fifth lap. Three laps later, the green flag flew for the final six lap shootout. Reid overtook Kerr for second and started to chase Hulkenberg. Duval saw an opening and took third out of Kerr's hands before Kerr started to slow down with a right front tire puncture. "I went to defend but Robbie got me on the outside. I gave him racing room but then we touched going through turn three, and I almost held him out as I had the inside line for four and five. It was a bit of luck I was able to come back on the re-start and on the lights I got second. For the next race as usual we are representing our countries so we will both do our best," commented Reid. "The championship is at stake so we need to focus on this but we will race hard and fair." Sebastien Buemi for Team Switzerland and Team Netherlands' Jeroen Bleekemolen rounded out the top five. With the Sprint race victory, Hulkenberg who landed wins but until New Zealand's event, had not notched a pole. Now the German has nailed down his fourth consecutive pole before this afternoon's Feature race. Two during qualifying to set up the Sprint starting grid and now two for the Feature race lineup based on Sprint race results. 0.045

Re: Nico Hülkemberg
Team Germany doubles in Australia
Racing series A1gp Date 2007-02-04 </I> Nico Hulkenberg now has six A1 Grand Prix wins, at the age of 19, the German racer has placed Team Germany in a dominant role -- now 82 points in the 2006/'07 season. "This is clearly a victory of the team of David Sears that has helped me regaining my lead. Obviously, we are in a good position in the championship, but we don't relax as my appetite is whetted for further victories," expressed the double winner. Last season, Team France built the cushion that landed them the inaugural World Cup of Motorsport championship. This year, it appears that the German team headed by Willi Weber is on its way to take the second season title. It was not an easy run for the German teenager at the start of the final race today and when the safety car came out, Weber's team felt it best to take their mandatory pit stop early. "I had too much wheelspin at the start. I lost one position and couldn't get past Jonny Reid in the first corner as I was on the outside," commented Hulkenberg. "Thanks to a quick pitstop, we fought back and I was ahead of A1 Team New Zealand again." Hoping to yet stop the dominant German team is Team New Zealand. Jonny Reid placed second in the two races today and holds second in the standings with 57 points. However, Team France is sitting third, just five points behind. Reid had the early lead but when he came in for his pit stop, he lost the edge to Team Germany and the Kiwi could not make up the ground for the win. "I just controlled it at the start as it is easy to control the race when you are in front. It was a little bit disappointing with the pit stop issue, but that is the way motorsport goes sometimes," said Reid. "I pushed and pushed but we had nothing left as the car was not so good in the race." The fourth top team in the standings after New Zealand's event has slipped down and Team Great Britain would have to have a strong comeback with four venues left on this year's calendar, including their home race at Brands Hatch. The 46 lap Feature race on the Eastern Creek circuit in Australia was easily won by Hulkenberg by over seven seconds in front of Reid. The two started both races on Sunday in Sydney on the front row with the German on the pole. Further back in third in the Feature race and scoring points for Team China was Ho-Pin Tung for his best finish of the season after a brilliant late pass on Jeroen Bleekemolen on the 22nd lap to land China their first podium finish. "I have just seen Steven our press manager cheering on the phone and screaming, so I think probably it will be a really big thing in China," Tung said. "I think on the TV maybe it looked a bit braver when I overtook the Netherlands than it was in reality. I just had a very good tow down the main straight and I overtook him on the outside. I used my PowerBoost to get a really good tow, moved to the outside and could carry more speed into the corner where he had to lift as he had to defend his position." Team Netherlands' driver Bleekemolen notched another top-five finish with fourth in the second of the two races. Earlier the Dutchman was fifth in the Sprint race. As he prepares for his new ride in the American Le Mans Series and flying to Australia after racing in the Grand American Rolex 24 at Daytona, Florida, Tomas Enge landed fifth for Team Czech Republic. The next two races on the A1GP calendar will be Durban, South Africa on February 25th.

Re: Nico Hülkemberg
Eastern Creek: Team Germany race report
Racing series A1GP Date 2007-02-04 A1 Team Germany wins twice in Australia Again, Willi Weber's A1 Team Germany scored the maximum possible results in the A1 GP World Cup of Motorsport: in round 7 in Australia, Nico Hulkenberg from Emmerich in Germany started from pole position and won both the sprint and feature races. He also recorded the fastest race lap of the weekend on the Eastern Creek circuit. Only a fortnight ago in New Zealand, A1 Team Germany had achieved exactly the same feat already. After six wins -- two in sprint races and four in feature races -- Willi Weber's team extended its lead in the overall standings from 19 to 25 points ahead of its new closest rival New Zealand with four events remaining. A1 Team Germany once again turned its pole position into a good start in the sprint race. Nico Hulkenberg entered the first corners in top spot when a battle unfolded between New Zealand and Great Britain behind him, with both cars touching wheels and British driver Robbie Kerr car gaining one position. A spin of A1 Team Lebanon caused a safety car period in lap five. Thereafter, Nico Hulkenberg maintained his leading position, whilst New Zealand attacked Great Britain and regained second spot. After 14 laps on the 3.93 kilometre long Eastern Creek circuit, A1 Team Germany took its fifth win of the season, having achieved the fastest lap of the race, too. At the beginning of the feature race, A1 Team Germany realized that the Australian race was not quite a carbon copy of the previous weekend in New Zealand, as Nico Hulkenberg lost his top position at the start to A1 Team New Zealand's Jonny Reid. After a safety car period between lap 2 and lap 7, A1 Team Germany decided to do the mandatory pit stop in lap 9. In the following lap, Jonny Reid came in to get a set of fresh tyres. With his pit stop having been somewhat slower, he lost his position to Germany. Nico Hulkenberg gradually extended his lead, having held an advantage of 3 seconds midway through the race after 24 laps already. After 47 laps, he crossed the line 6.756 seconds ahead of Team New Zealand. Both leading cars were run by David Sears motorsport and were in a class of their own, more than 26 seconds ahead of Ho Pin-Tung's A1 Team China car. Nicolas Hulkenberg: "The sprint race was good but not easy at all as A1 Team New Zealand and later Britain were pushing. I managed to build up a lead of three seconds when the safety car came out. I lost my advantage, so I had to push and we won. In the feature race, I had too much wheelspin at the start. I lost one position and couldn't get past Jonny Reid in the first corner as I was on the outside. Thanks to a quick pitstop, we fought back and I was ahead of A1 Team New Zealand again. This is clearly a victory of the team of David Sears that has helped me regaining my lead. Obviously, we are in a good position in the championship, but we don't relax as my appetite is whetted for further victories." Willi Weber: "Congratulations to Nico and the David Sears motorsport team. Thanks to them, A1 Team Germany again had a fantastic weekend, celebrated another couple of victories and scored the maximum number of points. This is more than we could expect after an exceptionally good weekend a fortnight ago. Some rivals dropped back in the standings now, but New Zealand emerged as the new strongest opposition. We are in a good position regarding the fight for the title, but we must not forget that there are still eight races to come on four weekends, so everything is open. Part of our successful weekend was once again Christian Vietoris who finished the 'rookie practice session' on Friday as runner-up in only his second outing for us. He deserves to get more miles in the car. Nico and Christian are two great German talents." Next race: 23 to 25 February 2007, Durban (South Africa) -credit: team germany 0.041
