First day of testing in Valencia - ART out in front

16.03.2008 - The first day of official Formula 3 Euro Series testing saw three drivers of the ART team out in front. German driver Nico Hülkenberg was the fastest to lap the circuit in Valencia, Spain with a time of 1.28.696 minutes. Frenchman Jules Bianchi was only 0.013 seconds slower in second place. Briton James Jakes lapped the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in 1.29.063 minutes and occupied third spot.

In pleasant conditions with temperatures ranging around 22 degrees, the first aim for the teams was to get to terms with their new cars and to find the right set-up. This went largely trouble-free throughout the day, which allowed the teams to complete their testing programme as planned. Especially in the afternoon, there weren’t many drivers out anymore.

Nico Hülkenberg (ART): “Being back in the car and being quick is nice. However, the times achieved here don’t mean very much. I am happy when I am on top in qualifying at Hockenheim.”

Jules Bianchi (ART): “The morning session was good and went without trouble. I already knew the track having raced here with Formula Renault last year. I mainly worked on adapting my driving style. Finding the right line wasn’t particularly easy today as the wind was very strong.”

James Jakes (ART): “I am very happy with this test day. Like all the others, we still have a lot of work to do, but we are on the right way. Today, getting back into the rhythm was my main goal. I am looking forward to tomorrow and to the Estoril test.”

Valencia, 3° turno: ancora Hulkenberg, cresce la Prema

Terzo turno di prove per la F.3 Euro Series a Valencia. Anche questa mattina, Nico Hulkenberg del team ART è risultato il più veloce abbassando il limite a 1'28"404 contro l'1'28"696 di sabato. Se ieri parecchie squadre avevano utilizzato la giornata di test come shake down, non cercando la prestazione ed i divari in termini di tempo erano notevoli, stamane la musica è cambiata. Ben 17 piloti sono racchiusi in un secondo e ad inseguire Hulkenberg c'è Christian Vietoris del team Mucke, anche lui tedesco e "compagno" di Nico nella scuderia di management diretta da Willy Weber, instancabile scopritore di talenti.

Al terzo e quarto posto, si sono confermati nelle primissime posizioni i rookie Jules Bianchi (ART) e Mika Maki (Mucke). Veramente sorprendente come il francese ed il finlandese si sono adattati velocemente alla guida di questa monoposto. Al quinto posto, buone indicazioni per la Prema con Dani Clos. Più indietro gli altri piloti del team veneto, Renger Van der Zande e Charlie Kimball. Sorprende il sesto posto di Richard Philippe del team Carlin che ha piazzato anche Roberto Gonzalez ottavo. Le prime dieci posizioni sono monopolio dei motori Mercedes. Il primo dei Volkswagen è undicesimo ed è Maximilian Goetz della italiana RC Motorsport. Appare in difficoltà l'altro team VW, il francese Signature, la cui prima monoposto è quattordicesima con Jean Karl Vernay. Edoardo Mortara è solo diciannovesimo.

( corregido) Hoy a sido otra buena jornada para hulkemberg consiguiendo el mejor crono de todo el fin de semana 1'28"404 en los primeros test de valencia siendo de esta manera algo mas rapido que su nuevo compañero jules bianchi que se esta mostrando muy veloz y consistente ya por la tarde solo a conseguido un bigesimo primero ya que al parecer la escuderia art no a ido a por cronos rodando unas 27 vueltas ya veremos la semana que biene en portugal......

Second day of testing at Valencia: Hülkenberg again the quickest

17.03.2008 - On the second day off the official Formula 3 Euro Series tests, Nicolas Hülkenberg (ART Grand Prix) again secured the top position on the time sheets. In the Sunday morning session of the tests held at Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tomo, the German set the fastest lap time of the entire tests when lapping the 4.005-kilometre track in 1:28.405 minutes.

Second position also was clinched by a German: Christian Vietoris (Mücke Motorsport) was just 0.062 seconds slower than his compatriot. While Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix) confirmed his good performance delivered on the first day of testing by coming third on day two, with his personal minimum time of 1:28,539 minutes.

As the track was faster than on day one, the Sunday minimum times proved to also be the fastest lap times of the entire weekend. In summerlike conditions, with temperatures of about 24° C, all the 29 drivers participating in the tests opted for covering as many kilometres as possible. The busiest of all the drivers involved was France’s Richard Philippe (Carlin Motorsport) who completed 98 laps on the track located close to Valencia. Altogether, no major incident was witnessed during the two days of testing. Only once, a session had to be red-flagged for a short period of time: in the early stages of the Sunday afternoon session, when Stefano Coletti (Red Bull Signature) and Jon Lancaster (ART Grand Prix) collided in the final corner.

In just four days, from Thursday, teams and drivers will be testing again, with Estoril, Portugal, being the venue of the second two days of Formula 3 Euro series testing.

Zandvoort-Masters wieder in Zolder

Auch 2008 muss das Formel-3-Masters statt in Zandvoort im belgischen Zolder ausgetragen werden - Weiterhin nur eine Übergangslösung
In der vergangenen Saison hat Nico Hülkenberg das Masters gewonnen
Vom 8. bis 10. August treffen sich wieder die besten Piloten der verschiedenen Formel-3-Meisterschaften zum Zandvoort-Masters. Doch auch in dieser Saison werden sie nicht auf dem niederländischen Dünenkurs, sondern im belgischen Zolder gegeneinander antreten. Wie schon im Vorjahr muss das renommierte Formel-3-Rennen aus Lärmschutzgründen verlegt werden. Titelsponsor des Masters wird auch in diesem Jahr Reifenhersteller Kumho sein. "Es ist natürlich weiterhin nur eine Übergangslösung, denn Zandvoort ist die Heimat des Masters, das sagt ja auch schon der Name", erklärte Erik Weijers, Geschäftsführer des Circuit Park Zandvoort. "In Zandvoort entstand die Idee zum Masters und seit der ersten Auflage 1991 ist es zu einer Traditionsveranstaltung geworden. Wegen der stark begrenzten Anzahl der sogenannten 'Lärmtage' in Zandvoort müssen wir aber wieder nach Zolder ausweichen. Natürlich sind die Einrichtungen und die Unterstützung dort exzellent. Zolder ist von daher die beste Alternative."


Auf dem Dünenkurs in Zandvoort darf nur an fünf Tagen im Jahr Rennsport betrieben werden, dessen Lärmemissionen gewisse Grenzwerte überschreiten. Drei Tage davon "verbraucht" die DTM mit ihren Rahmenserien, die übrigen beiden Tage werden für die A1GP-Serie genutzt.
Viele der bisherigen Sieger des Masters haben danach richtig Karriere gemacht, zum Beispiel David Coulthard, Pedro Lamy, Jos Verstappen, Norberto Fontana, Takuma Sato, Christian Klien und Lewis Hamilton. Im Vorjahr konnte der Deutsche Nico Hülkenberg das Formel-3-Kräftemessen für sich entscheiden. Er ist als Williams-Testfahrer ebenfalls schon mit einem Fuß in der Formel 1.

Dillmann the quickest on the first day of testing at Estoril

21.03.2008 - On the first of the two days of testing at Estoril, the former Portuguese Grand Prix circuit, Tom Dillmann (SG Formula, 1:32.313 min) secured the top position on the time sheets. Behind the French driver, Koudai Tsukakoshi (Manor Motorsport, 1:32.379 min) and Henkie Waldschmidt (SG Formula, 1:32.382 min) finished second and third respectively.

Dillmann set his fastest lap with just seven more minutes to go, on day one, and defended his lead until the afternoon session was over. “Throughout the day, I had been quick on old tyres,” beamed the SG driver. “And the fresh set of tyres offered me the chance of taking first position. A position that is something special for me as SG Formula has entered the Formula 3 Euro Series only this year. For me, it was somewhat like coming home as I already have raced for the squad in Formula Renault.”

Henkie Waldschmidt completed the French team’s success by clocking the third fastest lap time of the day, at Estoril. “The day went really well,” said the fastest rookie of the day, “far better than expected.”

The position between the two SG drivers was clinched by Manor’s Koudai Tsukakoshi. “I still made some minor mistakes,” he admitted. “I need some more experience, than I will be able to do even better,” he challenged Dillmann regarding the second day of testing.

Nico Hülkenberg (ART Grand Prix, 1:32.457 min), who held the lead for a long time, had to settle for finishing fourth. On his fastest lap, the German made a minor mistake but this was enough to bar him from clocking a better lap time. “I don’t care,” he said. “I know that it can be done and that’s far more important than holding first position on the time sheets.”

Despite having completed just a few laps, Christian Vietoris (Mücke Motorsport, 1:32.948 min) also made it to the top ten. In the morning session, the German’s mileage was extremely limited due to technical problems and in the afternoon, he was hampered by an engine change. Vietoris could join the test with just half an hour to go, still, he succeeded in working his way up to ninth position. “A pity, he said, “this could have been a really good day, for us. Still, it’s not too bad as the testing times don’t count. The fact that we couldn’t complete our scheduled programme is far more annoying. Now we will have to work really hard, tomorrow.”

2008 Formula 3 Euro Series: 20 races on European soil

Two street circuits, three Formula 1 GP venues and ten race weekends featuring a total of 20 races: that’s what the Formula 3 Euro series drivers may look forward to in 2008. France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, England and Italy are the countries that will host rounds of the planet’s most competitive young-gun series, in 2008. 18 of the 20 races will be held within the scope of DTM, thus offering the up-and-coming talents the chance of proving their skills in front of an average crowd of 80,000 spectators as well as the DTM Team Principals. While one race weekend will be contested in the support programme of the WTCC.

Estoril, 2° giorno: Sam Bird lancia il team Manor, Maki stupisce

Sam Bird si è portato via il miglior tempo al termine dei due giorni di test collettivi della F.3 Euro Series a Estoril. L'inglese è al debutto nella serie continentale con il team Manor e lo scorso anno ha corso nella F.3 britannica ottenendo lusinghieri risultati. Bird ha fermato i cronometri sul tempo di 1'32"035 nel corso del terzo turno di questa mattina. Secondo ha concluso Nico Hulkenberg del team ART, 1'35"086 il suo limite.

Terzo un rookie assoluto per la F.3, Mika Maki, la grande sorpresa di questa fase pre stagione. Il finlandese di Mucke, campione italiano della F.Renault italiana, aveva già lasciato il segno a Valencia. Dietro di lui, James Jakes e Kodai Tsukakoshi, in arrivo dalla F.3 giapponese. Altra sorpresa, Michael Klein, che aveva corso nella F.3 tedesca ed ha concluso con la Dallara del team Zeller al sesto posto dopo le due giornate di test. Nei top ten altri due rookie ex F.Renault: Jules Bianchi ed Henki Waldschmidt.

Nei dieci il primo motore Volkswagen, quello che equipaggia la Dallara RC Motorsport di Maximilian Goetz. Il tedesco è stato il più veloce nel 4° turno di oggi pomeriggio. Martin Plowman, con la seconda Dallara RC è dodicesimo. Il primo pilota Prema è Renger Van der Zande, diciassettesimo. Nelle ultime posizioni Edoardo Mortara, sorpresa negativa dei test portoghesi.

Fastest lap for Sam Bird in Estoril

22.03.2008 - Sam Bird (Manor Motorsport, 1:32.086 min.) set the outright fastest lap time in two days of testing of the Formula 3 Euro Series in Estoril. Nico Hülkenberg (ART Grand Prix, 1:32.086 min.) was second, 0.051 seconds down, ahead of rookie Mika Mäki Die (Mücke Motorsport, 1:32.184 min). A total of 19 drivers ranged within one second in the overall classification after the two days.

The fastest lap times were established in the morning hours of the second day. Towards the end of the session, Bird came out on top and defended this position until the lunch break. Second-placed Nico Hülkenberg, who was only just beaten by the Briton, was happy, too. “I think that we have done a good job. I am among the front runners and I am able to fight for the top positions. However, I expect competition to be quite close this season.“

Fourth place of his British team mate James Jakes (1:32,203 min) also underlined the strong performance of his team ART Grand Prix on the two days.

Team SG Formula, that was on top with Tom Dillmann (1:32.313 min) on the first day, was quite late to join the action on Friday. Henki Waldschmidt (1:32.382 min) didn’t even complete one lap in the morning, his team mate Tom Dillmann only did 18 laps. “We still had a lot of work to do on our cars, which was the reason that it took so long for us”, Dillmann explained.

Surprise of the windy afternoon was Maximilian Götz (R.C. Motorsport, 1:32.430 min). The best-placed Volkswagen driver set the fastest time in the final session of the two test days. “It is only a test, but I am still happy. We have made a lot of progress. I was quick both with old and with new tyres, which makes me optimistic for the season opener.“ In the overall classification of the Estoril test, Götz occupied tenth place.

At the former Formula 1 circuit in Portugal, there were also shining faces in the Jo Zeller Racing pit box. The team’s new driver, Michael Klein (1:32.266 min) was a regular contender for top positions in Estoril, he finally occupied sixth place in the overall classification. “I could have been even quicker. I had a lot of traffic when I was out with new tyres and unfortunately a lot of yellow flags as well. But still, I am really happy with our strong performance.“

Magny-Cours, 1° turno: Vietoris porta in testa il team Mucke

La F.3 Euro Series scalda i muscoli in vista della prima prova stagionale che si terrà il 12-13 aprile ad Hockenheim. Martedì 1 aprile, ventitre piloti (assenti il team Manor e Carlin) hanno lavorato sul circuito di Magny-Cours per una due giorni di test collettivi. Christian Vietoris, tedesco del team Mucke, ha firmato la migliore prestazione del primo turno in 1'33"880 davanti al connazionale Nico Hulkenberg, staccata di 361 millesimi.

Buon terzo Dani Clos del team Prema. La squadra italiana ha piazzato al quinto posto Charlie Kimball e al diciassettesimo Renger Van der Zande. Ottime le premesse per la Prema a pochi giorni da Hockenheim. Il primo motore Volkswagen occupa il sesto posto grazie a Jean-Karl Vernay del team Signature. Notevole la prova del rookie Henki Waldschmidt, quarto con il team debuttante SG Formula.

Magny-Cours, 3°-4° turno: Hulkenberg 1°, guizzo di Mortara

Nico Hulkenberg è risultato il dominatore indiscusso dei test collettivi di Magny-Cours per la F.3 Euro Series (assenti Carlin e Manor) che si sono conclusi mercoledì 2 aprile. Nel terzo turno, il pilota tedesco del team ART ha realizzato con la Dallara-Mercedes il miglior crono assoluto in 1'33"403, confermando una volta di più che è con lui che si dovranno fare i conti per la vittoria finale nel campionato. La piacevole sorpresa è invece arrivata da Edoardo Mortara e dal motore Volkswagen che equipaggia la sua Dallara gesita dal team Signature.

Il pilota italiano ha infatti firmato il secondo tempo assoluto in 1'33"415, uno dei migliori risultati del nuovo propulsore tedesco che ha debuttato nella F.3 soltanto lo scorso agosto. Voci di paddock lasciano intendere che Mercedes ha chiesto ai team di non girare a pieno regime, nascondendo le carte. Tra pochi giorni, quando scatterà il campionato a Hockenheim (12 aprile), sapremo la verità.

Il team Prema lascia Magny-Cours con il sorriso ben stampato sul volto dei propri meccanici, ingegneri e titolari. Dopo prove non positive a Valencia, la squadra di Rosin in Francia è stata costantemente nelle prime posizioni con le Dallara-Mercedes affidate ai suoi tre piloti Dani Clos, Charlie Kimball e Renger Van der Zande. Qualche difficoltà in più per la RC Motorsport, che utilizza i motori Volkswagen.

Nico Hülkenerg looks forward to the start
With the opening race in Hockenheim on next Saturday the formula-3 euroseries starts into the new season. Nico Hülkenberg, one of the favorites, can hardly wait to start for the first race.

In the last test runs the Emmericher could underline his position as favourite in the overall ranking. “We reached good times in all test runs. Everything is very close, but we already expected that. There is a lot of quantity and quality.”, so the opinion of the 20-years old.
30 pilots are going to fight for championship points in the formula-3 euroseries. The preparation for this year’s season is almost done and everyone is waiting for the starting signal in Hockenheim.
The williams formula one test driver is looking forward: “I’m well-prepared and I want to drive races. My head is clear and I’m totally focused. One thing is sure, I will do my very best in every single race.”
Nico will arrive at the Hockenheim racetrack on Wednesday for the final pre-event test on Thursday.

Nico Hülkenberg spricht im Exklusiv-Interview über Titel und Konkurrenten in der Formel-3-Euroserie und verrät, warum er im Williams breit grinsen muss

Nico Hülkenberg geht als haushoher Favorit in die neue Saison der Euroserie
- Nico Hülkenberg geht in seine zweite Saison in der Formel-3-Euroserie - und gilt als haushoher Titelfavorit. Gegen Ende der vergangenen Saison drehte der junge Emmericher richtig auf, bei den Testfahrten konnte er ebenfalls überzeugen. Sein Talent wird auch in der Königsklasse geschätzt: Seit dieser Saison ist Hülkenberg Formel-1-Testpilot bei Williams. 'Motorsport-Total.com' hat mit ihm über die anstehende Saison in der Euroserie und das Feeling im Formel-1-Boliden gesprochen.
Frage: "Nico - in der neuen Saison der Formel-3-Euroserie gehörst du zu den klaren Titelfavoriten. Jeder geht davon aus, dass an dir kein Weg vorbeigeht. Was sagst du selbst dazu?"
Nico Hülkenberg: "Was ich dazu sage? Ich will natürlich - wie jeder - versuchen zu gewinnen. Wenn möglich, auch die Meisterschaft. Ich gehe jetzt in mein zweites Jahr und die meisten sehen mich als Favorit, aber ich selbst sehe es eigentlich ganz locker. Ich denke von Rennen zu Rennen und werde einfach versuchen, das Maximum herauszuholen."
Hülkenberg macht viele Gegner aus
Frage: "Wer sind deine Hauptkonkurrenten? Kann man dazu schon etwas sagen?"
Hülkenberg: "Ich denke, dass es da in diesem Jahr viele gibt. Wir haben nicht nur ein großes Feld, sondern es sieht auch qualitativ sehr stark aus. Vor allem meine Teamkollegen sind alle sehr schnell und stark. Die Mücke-Jungs sehen alle stark aus, Manor sieht wied
