Re: Nico Hülkenberg
A turbulent race at the Norisring - Maiden victory for Vietoris 29.06.2008 - At the 2.3 kilometres long Norisring in Nuremberg, Christian Vietoris (Mücke Motorsport) scored his maiden victory in the Formula 3 Euro Series. After 18 laps, the Mücke driver finished ahead of Canadian, Robert Wickens, who raced at the Norisring for the first time, and Edoardo Mortara (both Signature-Plus). In the points’ standings, Mortara extended his lead to 15 points. The runner-up in the standings, Nico Hülkenberg (ART Grand Prix) retired early after a collision with Martin Plowman (R.C. Motorsport). The race had a turbulent start. On the first lap already, Jon Lancaster (ART Grand Prix) and Edoardo Mortara collided in the Grundig hairpin and the 21-year old Italian spun. This led to a pile-up of several cars, after which the clerk of the course interrupted the race for 22 minutes. After the re-start, Erik Janis (Mücke Motorsport) took the lead, but only held it for three laps. Then, he was overtaken by his team-mate Christian Vietoris. The 19-year old safely drove victory home. As another accident happened in the Grundig hairpin in the closing stages, the race was stopped early. This time, James Jakes (ART Grand Prix) had pushed Spaniard Daniel Campos-Hull (HBR Motorsport) into a spin and Richard Philippe (Carlin Motorsport) couldn’t avoid them. As less than half the planned race distance was completed due to the interruption, only half points were given. Christian Vietoris (Mücke Motorsport): “Today, I had a good start, but then, the race was interrupted. After the re-start, it took a while before my tyres were warm. After that, I was able to overtake and claim my first win. Today, I had luck, but the title is still a long way to go.” Robert Wickens (Signature-Plus): “Being on the podium in my fourth race already is incredible. Hopefully, it will go on like this and I can still score many points. The Norisring suits my driving style very well.“ Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus): “That was the hardest race in my life. It is almost a miracle that my front wing didn’t break. I was really lucky today, things were running perfectly for me.” Air temperature: 26.2 °C Asphalt temperature: 33.0 °C

Re: Nico Hülkenberg
Hülkenberg: Norisring - victory and second place in overall ranking
Sonntag, 29.06.2008 Nico Hülkenberg from Emmerich moved up to second place in the overall ranking of formula-3 euroseries after his victory at the Norisring. In a turbulent race on sunday technical problems and a crash avoided a further improvement. In the qualifying at friday Nico Hülkenberg already showed a strong performance. He drove the fastest lap time and futhermore with a new track record he gained the pole position for the race on saturday. At the start “Hülki” lost the leading position in favour of Mika Mäki. But in the first corne he could already regain the leading position. After that Nico Hülkenberg’s victory was never in jeopardy. Koudai Tsukakoshi (Manor Motorsport) finished in second position ahead of Jean-Karl Vernay (Signature Plus) at third place. Accordingly happy Nico Hülkenberg said: “Today, it is a great day for me with this perfect result. I have scored many points. It would be perfect when I could also score many points tomorrow. Of course, now I am happy. The team gave me a perfect car again. The experience of my ART team just becomes clear, they have been unbeaten here at Norisring since 2005.” At the second race on sunday the young driver from Emmerich had to start from 8th place. The race had a turbulent start. On the first lap, Jon Lancaster and Edoardo Mortara collided in the Grundig hairpin and the 21-year old Italian spun. This led to a pile-up of several cars, after which the clerk of the course interrupted the race for 22 minutes. After the re-start Nico Hülkenberg retired early after a collision with Martin Plowman. However, after a turbulent race the conclusion of Hülkenberg was relaxed: “I am very happy about my victory at saturday. We were very fast here at the Norisring and we could gain some points in the overalll ranking. Nevertheless it would be nice to realise this performance in both races of the weekend. Now I am looking forward to the races in Zandvoort, because I really like the track.” With 25 points Nico Hülkenberg is placed in second position of the overall ranking just behind E. Mortara (40 points). In two weeks, from 11th of July to 13th of July, the next races will start at the netherlands Circuit Park in Zandvoort. Re: Nico Hülkenberg
A look through the record books...
Tuesday, July 01, 2008 After three epic seasons, containing 64 races across 17 circuits in 14 countries, there have been many feats of brilliance in A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. Many records have been set, only for them to be broken, and broken again. With the clock counting down until the 2008/09 season begins in September, and the new A1GP Powered by Ferrari cars being readied for the battle, it was time for A1GP.com to have a little look back through the record books and pull out some of the standard… and not so standard A1GP records. ![]() Most wins Team: France (14) Driver: Nico Hulkenberg (nine) France heads the team victory league, while Germany’s Nico Hulkenberg is A1GP’s most successful driver. Most pole positions Team: Switzerland (nine) Driver: Neel Jani (nine) Neel Jani’s brilliance over a single lap means that both he and Switzerland top the pole positions league, having started first in each of the last three seasons. Youngest capped driver Armaan Ebrahim (16 years, five months, six days) This record will take some beating. Teenager Ebrahim (A1 Team India) become A1GP’s youngest ever racer in the Estoril Sprint race way back in 2005, and nobody has since come close. He remains the only 16-year-old to race an A1GP car. ![]() Youngest person to win an A1GP race Christian Vietoris (18 years, nine months, 19 days) Germany’s Vietoris brilliantly won Taupo’s Feature race in 2008 to become A1GP’s youngest winner, knocking four months off the record held by country man Nico Hulkenberg. Robert Wickens (A1 Team Canada) was just two months older than Vietoris when he won his first race a few weeks later in Durban but… Youngest driver on pole position Robert Wickens (18 years, five months, six days) …his stellar qualifying performance meant he was still good enough to be A1GP’s youngest ever pole sitter that very weekend. Team with most number of different winners France and Germany Both have had three different winners racing for it. France’s gold medal roll-call includes Alexandre Premat, Nicolas Lapierre and Loic Duval, while Germany’s victories were taken by Nico Hulkenberg, Michael Ammermuller and Christian Vietoris. ![]() Most caps Alex Yoong (54) So far, Malaysia’s Yoong is the only driver to achieve the milestone of a half-century of races for his country… Most consecutive caps Alex Yoong (45) …so it is no surprise to learn he is also the driver with the highest number of consecutive races too. He managed a 45-race stretch from his home event in 2005 through to Taupo in 2008. The run was broken when the team elected to recall Fairuz Fauzy in a bid to strengthen competitiveness. Most consecutive points finishes A1 Team France (21 races) A1 Team’s France’s strong run of points finishes stretches from Germany’s Sprint race in 2005 through to its maiden victory at Zandvoort 2007. New Zealand got a run of 16 going, but it ended when Jonny Reid spun out of contention early in the Mexico City Feature race in 2008. Largest gaps between caps for a country David Martinez (49 races) Mexico chose to recall the 26-year-old to its squad in Brands Hatch in 2008, and with his last start coming 49 races previously, it meant that Martinez set the unusual record for the largest number of races between caps for a driver in A1GP. Martinez was capped four times for the squad in the 2005/06 season, finishing in the points in his maiden race in Germany in ’05. Before Brands Hatch, he last raced in Durban, South Africa in January ’06. Longest gap between race wins France (36 races) Sure, teams like Brazil are still currently on a 62-race winless streak since their last glory, however, France holds the record for the longest wait between wins. A whopping 36 races separated Alex Premat’s win in the Mexico Feature in 2006 with Loic Duval’s Sprint win in Sydney in 2008. ![]() Most races competed in before actually winning one Robbie Kerr (33 races) Despite being one of the fastest and most consistent drivers on the A1GP grid, it didn’t stop Robbie Kerr being unlucky. Despite leading in only his second race, it took him 31 further races to break his duck, with a dominant win in the Sprint race in Shanghai. Only one other driver has competed in more races but remained winless – Indonesia’s Ananda Mikola. Biggest winning margin 42.849 seconds (A1GP Sepang, Malaysia 2006/7 Feature) In torrential rain showers, A1 Team Germany talent Nico Hulkenberg mastered the conditions to win by a staggering margin. In the ultra-close world of A1GP, it has never even come close to being beaten. Smallest winning margin 0.243 seconds (A1GP Durban, South Africa 2005/06 Sprint race) France’s Alexandre Premat just managed to hold off Great Britain’s Robbie Kerr around the tight and unforgiving streets of Durban in the inaugural season. It is the only A1GP race to be decided by less than a quarter of a second. Blink and you would have missed it. Team with most amount of drivers to lead a race France (Five) A1 Team France has managed to get five different drivers out front in its car - Alexandre Premat, Nicolas Lapierre, Loic Duval, Jonathan Cochet, Franck Montagny – although only the first three have managed to be there when the chequered flag flew at the end. Medal toppers France (30 medals) Thanks in part to its dominant first season, Les Bleus have racked up a staggering 30 medals for their trophy cabinet. ![]() Nation with the most amount of capped drivers Australia, Brazil, Mexico (eight drivers each) To date, 116 drivers have raced in A1GP, but three teams in particular have been responsible for a significant proportion of that. However those three, it could be argued that Australia is infact the most successful because… Nation with most number different drivers collecting medals Australia (Five) ….it took less than two seasons for a quintet of drivers to score podium finishes in Jackaroo. The roll call even comprises three drivers, Will Power, Marcus Marshall, and Ian Dyk, who won them in their maiden A1GP weekends. Ryan Briscoe and Karl Reindler were also quite quick off the mark, and both scored their podiums with just a few races under their belts. Australia’s incredible record here still stands, despite no further podium places being scored in the 2007/08 season. Season with most number of victors 2007/08 (Ten different winners) In what proved to be the closest season ever, just under half of all nations won a race. Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, USA all heard their national anthem being played to the crowd. Nation with the most A1GP victories on home soil Great Britain (Two) A1 Team Great Britain’s Robbie Kerr has taken two victories at Brands Hatch – in the Sprint race in 2007 and the corresponding race in 2008. Only one other nation has taken a home victory, New Zealand, in Taupo in ‘08.

Re: Nico Hülkenberg
Germany drivers take F3 wins
Tuesday, July 01, 2008 While it is off-season for A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, it is still a busy time for several of its top racers with two of A1 Team Germany’s star drivers proving successful this weekend in the F3 Euroseries. Christian Vietoris, a winner for the squad in Taupo last January, and Nico Hulkenberg, who won nine A1GP races in 2006/07 when Germany clinched the title, were both victorious around one of their country’s most notorious street circuits, the Norisring. Vietoris overtook former A1 Team Czech Republic racer Erik Janis for the lead and was never headed in Sunday’s second race, while Hulkenberg had dominated Saturday’s first encounter. “After the re-start, it took a while before my tyres were warm,” Vietoris said of his win. “After that, I was able to overtake and claim my first win. Today, I had luck, but the F3 Euroseries title is still a long way to go.” The second race was successful for another A1GP race winner – Canada’s Robert Wickens, who finished runner-up in what was only his fourth F3 Euroseries race. Meanwhile, fellow Canadian James Hinchliffe maintained his front-running form in the Atlantic Championship, with fourth place at the Mont-Tremblant circuit in Canada. Other A1GP drivers - Pakistan’s Adam Khan, Brazilian rookie Felipe Guimaraes, and French rookie Nicolas Prost - all scored podium finishes in the brace of races at the in the Euroseries 3000 championship at Valencia, Spain. New Zealand rookie Brendon Hartley took a double win in the British F3 championship.

Re: Nico Hülkenberg
Jean-Karl Vernay dominates free practice at Zandvoort
11.07.2008 - French driver Jean-Karl Vernay (Signature-Plus, 1:32.413 min) was clearly the fastest in free practice of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the 4.307 kilometres long race track at Zandvoort. His margin over second-placed Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix, 1:32.948 min) was more than half a second. Bianchi’s team-mates Nico Hülkenberg (1:33.039 min) and James Jakes (1:33.067 min) set the third and fourth fastest lap times respectively. Bianchi had been on top of the time sheets for a long time, but with five minutes to go, his fellow Frenchman Vernay took over the leading position. He extended his lead with his second fast lap in a row to 0.535 seconds. “With used tyres, it already went quite well, but with new tyres, it was even better. I am very happy with my lap time and I am now hoping for a dry qualifying“, said a happy Vernay after free practice. In spite of being beaten, Jules Bianchi wasn’t unhappy either. “For me, it was a good session, we have been working on the set-up. At the end, Jean-Karl had fresh tyres on and I didn’t, so that is why he was that much quicker.” Behind Vernay and the ART-trio of Bianchi, Hülkenberg and Jakes, Mika Mäki (Mücke Motorsport, 1:33.104 min) was fourth. Only a little bit slower than the Finn was Rodolfo Gonzalez (Carlin Motorsport, 1:33.211 min) at the former Grand Prix circuit in the Dutch North Sea dunes. “I think that I get a better understanding of the Kumho tyres all the time. And my team has kept on improving the car. However, I am only sixth and it was only free practice”, the Venezuelan put his performance into perspective. The end of the top ten was locked out by the Manor Motorsport quartet with Sam Bird (1:33.232 min) from Niall Breen (1:33.242 min), Kazuya Oshima (1:33.246 min) and Koudai Tsukakoshi (1:33.378 min). Especially Bird was impressed by thre circuit: “I am at Zandvoort for the first time, it is great fun indeed. The track can be compared to Mugello or Spa, it is still a drivers’ circuit.

Re: Nico Hülkenberg
Zandvoort - Qualifica
Nico Hülkenberg fastest in qualifying once more 11.07.2008 - For the fourth time this season already, Nico Hülkenberg (ART Grand Prix, 1:32.087 min) set the fastest lap time in qualifying of the Formula 3 Euro Series. At the 4.307 kilometres long circuit through the dunes of Zandvoort, the 20-year old test driver of the Williams Formula 1 team outpaced rookie Mika Mäki (Mücke Motorsport, 1:32.167 min) from Finland by 0.080 seconds. The second grid row for the ninth season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series on Saturday will be occupied by 18-year old Frenchman Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix, 1:32.225 min) and Brit Sam Bird (Manor Motorsport, 1:32,372 min), his senior by three years, For both drivers, it was their best qualifying result of the season. Behind the best four junior drivers, Jean-Karl Vernay (Signature-Plus, 1:32.512 min) qualified fifth. For the 20-year old Frenchman, qualifying was over with one minute to go when he landed in the gravel trap after a driving error. He still ranked fifth ahead of Japanese Koudai Tsukakoshi (Manor Motorsort, 1:32.539 min). Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus, 1:32.862 min), who came to Zandvoort as the points leader in the Formula 3 Euro Series, 15 points clear of Nico Hülkenberg, was only 15th. Nico Hülkenberg (ART Grand Prix): “It was not easy, because I had expected more grip on the track. I think that a lot of sand was blown onto the track because of the wind and that it was slippery as a result. With my first set of tyres, the balance of my car wasn’t that good, but with the second set, we managed to adapt the set-up to the track conditions in a better way.” Mika Mäki (Mücke Motorsport): “At the start of the session, I didn’t have a very good feeling. Only on my last few laps with my first set of tyres, it got better. After my fastest lap, I didn’t have the feeling that it was very good. I was all the more surprised when I saw the time.” Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix): My car was fantastic. I set the fastest time in the first and in the second sector, but unfortunately, not on the same lap. Therefore, I am not on pole position. Still, I am happy, because I have never been better in qualifying than today.” Air temperature: 20.2 °C Asphalt temperature: 22.5 °C
