Zweite Pole Position geht an Wittmann

Marco Wittmann holte sich in der zweiten Qualifikation der Formel BMW Deutschland in Oschersleben die Pole Position vor Jens Klingmann
Marco Wittmann steht beim morgigen Rennen in Oschersleben auf der Pole Zweimal erste Startreihe - das ist die Ausbeute von 'Motorsport-Total.com'-Kolumnist Jens Klingmann in Oschersleben. Nach seiner Pole Position für das elfte Saisonrennen muss sich der Eifelland Racing Pilot im zwölften Rennen allerdings mit Startplatz zwei begnügen.
In der zweiten Qualifikation an diesem Wochenende in Oschersleben holte sich Marco Wittmann mit 1:31.097 Minuten die Bestzeit und damit die Pole Position. Allerdings musste sich Klingmann nur knapp geschlagen geben: Sein Rückstand betrug ganze 0,083 Sekunden.

Auf Startplatz drei steht Maximilian Wissel, er teilt sich die zweite Startreihe mit Daniel Campos Hull. Der Österreicher Philipp Eng (Mücke) wurde Fünfter. Das erste Rennen der Formel BMW Deutschland in Oschersleben wird bereits heute Nachtmittag um 16:05 Uhr gestartet. Das nächste Rennen, für das nun die Startplätze vergeben wurden, beginnt morgen um 09:15 Uhr.

aniel Campos-Hull mantiene el liderato
Campeonato Alemán Fórmula BMW: Oscherleben – 1ª Carrera

Daniel Campos-Hull ha obtenido un nuevo podio al terminar en 3ª posición en la 11ª carrera del Campeonato Alemán de Fórmula BMW, disputada esta tarde en el circuito de Oschersleben.

Partiendo desde esa misma posición, el piloto del Programa de Jóvenes Pilotos del Circuit de Catalunya ha luchado durante las primeras vueltas con el austríaco Philipp Eng (2º en parrilla), intentándole arrebatar la 2ª plaza. Delante de Campos y Eng, Jens Klingmann mantenía la primera posición aunque sin conseguir escaparse.

A partir de la mitad de carrera el español ha perdido algo de terreno: “A medida que avanzaba la carrera se me ha hecho más difícil seguir a Eng. El coche se me iba mucho de atrás y me he tenido que concentrar en defenderme de Wittmann y de Tambay que me seguían muy de cerca. En un punto he intentado volver a empujar y me he escapado de ellos un poco, pero enseguida han vuelto los problemas y he tenido que terminar la carrera a la defensiva.”

Klingmann ha ganado la carrera y ha recortado un buen puñado de puntos al español, que sin embargo sigue líder del Campeonato. Mañana se disputará la 2ª carrera del fin de semana, que se presenta muy movida pues los neumáticos traseros de los pilotos de delante han sufrido mucho en la carrera de esta tarde. Las cuatro primeras posiciones de la parrilla de mañana son para Wittmann, Klingmann, Eng y Campos (en este orden).

“Mi objetivo para mañana es volver a subirme al podio, y hacerlo por delante de Klingmann”, ha declarado Daniel Campos-Hull.

South Africa breaks test record

A1 Team South Africa provided the excitement of the first day of this week’s official A1GP test at Silverstone, Great Britain.

Despite track time that totalled more than six hours, the team’s driver Adrian Zaugg chose the final five minutes to break the A1GP record for the circuit’s International layout.

Zaugg (pictured) went out on new tyres and smashed the previous best around the 2.3-mile track, before bettering it on the subsequent lap. The car is still painted white awaiting the launch of the team's new livery.

His fastest lap was 1m 10.484s – faster than the previous record of 1m 10.509s set by A1 Team Malaysia’s Fairuz Fauzy at last year’s official test sessions.

‘We were working on the car throughout the day,’ Zaugg said. ‘I thought we could be up there in the top six, as we were just concentrating on the set-up and trying to improve from run to run. Then we fitted new tyres, tried a few laps and it was a pretty good time.’

Nicolas Lapierre, who has won six races in A1GP, was second quickest for A1 Team France, with his time from this morning’s session, just 0.047 seconds off Zaugg’s best.

‘We did a good job today and it is better to be up here than at the back,’ Lapierre said. ‘But this is just a testing session. We are just working out the set-up for the races and giving some more experience to the young drivers to get ready for the first race as well.’

The other teams at the top of the time sheets were ‘locals’ A1 Teams Great Britain and Ireland.

Oliver Jarvis, who has the distinction of giving the British team its maiden victory in Mexico City last year, was third quickest while it was rookie Adam Carroll, who set the fourth fastest time for Ireland.

Jarvis played down the importance of the lap times, despite his strong performance on his late new tyre run.

Jarvis said: ‘When I set the time I realised it probably was not quick enough, as I expected the track to maybe get a little bit quicker. Unfortunately I had a bit of traffic in sector three, but probably every driver out there can say the same thing.

‘Being top of the times is all important, but it is nice to be up the front. It is nice to be in the top three, but tomorrow will be a different day altogether. It will be much stronger so if we end up at the top of the times tomorrow I shall be a much happier person.’

Carroll’s time was set this morning, and it looked for the majority of the day as it if it would hold up and be one of the top three fastest times of the day, however Zaugg and Jarvis’ new tyre runs put paid to that.

Neel Jani was fifth quickest for A1 Team Switzerland ahead of Jeroen Bleekemolen’s sixth place for A1 Team Netherlands. Bleekemolen complained the red flags spoiled his quickest runs.

Nicolas Prost se une al equipo A1 Team France
Sus primeras pruebas con el equipo fueron satisfactorias 29/08/07 10:45 pm
Nicolas Prost tuvo su primera sesión de pruebas en un monoplaza de A1GP en el circuito de Silvertone (Gran Bretaña) ayer. Gracias a su rendimiento el joven piloto francés fue anunciado como el novato en el equipo para el Campeonato 2007-2008 de la A1GP. Participará en las sesiones de entrenamientos libres de todos los viernes durante todas las carreras, y seguramente pueda competir en algunas durante la temporada. Nicolas se puso al volante de un monoplaza A1GP a las 14:00 en el circuito de 3'619 kilómetros y pronto pudo comprobar cómo se comportaba su Lola-Zytek, el mismo monoplaza que ha pilotado todos los jóvenes pilotos con talento en el campeonato. Pronto pudo dominar el monoplaza y dio 40 vueltas por la tarde. Nicolas probó por primera vez el monoplaza bajo la atenta mirada de su padre Alain, cuatro veces Campeón del Mundo de F1.
Los organizadores del A1GP anunciaron varias medidas para proteger el medio ambiente. La decisión principal es utilizar bio combustible con un 30% de etanol, que debería reducir las emisiones contaminantes un 20% este año.
El equipo A1 Team France terminó el día en segundo lugar con Nicolas Lapierre marcando un tiempo de 1'20"531 por la mañana. No le superaron hasta la tarde, cuando el equipo Team South Africa mejoró por 0'047 segundos.
Las pruebas para la A1GP continuarán en el circuito Silverstone hoy.
Nicolas Prost: "El monoplaza de A1GP es el monoplaza más potente que he pilotado hasta ahora, e inmediatamente me sentí como en casa detrás del volante. Todo el equipo y Nicolas Lapierre hicieron lo mejor para ayudarme y me gustaría darles las gracias a todos ellos. Mi objetivo para hoy es mejorar mi conocimiento del monoplaza y progresar. Estoy orgulloso de haber conseguido un puesto como novato en A1 Team France, y no puedo esperar más para contribuir a que la copa regrese a Francia".
Alain Prost: "La A1GP ha elegido utilizar combustibles biológicos este año y me gustaría felicitarlos por esa iniciativa. El deporte de motor debe seguir las preocupaciones de la actualidad. Hoy se ha marcado el debut de Nicolas en el campeonato y tengo que admitir que estoy encantado con su rendimiento. Será un placer para mí asistir a varias carreras este año, y darle todo mi apoyo al equipo A1 Team France, cuyo objetivo es volver a conseguir la Copa que ganamos al final de la temporada 2005-2006".

SEAT logra su primera victoria diesel WTCC 26/08/2007 - 18:20
Yvan Muller hace historia al lograr el triunfo con su SEAT León TDI en la primera carrera de Oschersleben. Este es el primer triunfo de un vehículo diesel en el campeonato. El piloto francés ha empezado la carrera desde la primera línea justo detrás de su compañero de equipo, Grabiele Tarquini, que había obtenido la pole. Después de unas vueltas, Muller superaba a su compañero para lograr este triunfo histórico. SEAT ha sido mejor que los BMW y Alfa Romeo de gasolina. El compañero de equipo de Muller, Gabriele Tarquini ha finalizado Segundo mientras que James Thompson ha colocado su Alfa Romeo en la tercera posición del podio. Por detrás han finalizado los BMW de Jörg Müller y Andy Priaulx.
Roberto Colciago ha finalizado la carrera en octava posición logrando el triunfo en el Trofeo Independiente. También ha logrado la pole para la segunda carrera.
De la vuelta 1 a la 3, la carrera se ha neutralizado por el coche de seguridad debido a un incidente entre varios coches en la salida. Un problema inicial que dejaba 8 vehículos fuera de carrera.
En la primera colisión de la carrera se han visto implicados Alessandro Zanardi (BMW), Nicola Larini (Chevrolet) y los SEAT independientes de Massimiliano Pedalà y Pierre-Yves Corthals.
Pero solo unos instantes después se ha producido una nueva colisión con el SEAT de Colciago y el Chevrolet de Alain Menu como protagonistas. Además, salieron peor parados los coches de Luca Rangoni y Félix Porteiro (BMW) junto con los SEAT de Tom Coronel y Peter Terting. De todos ellos, sólo Colciago y Rangoni pudieron seguir.
Tarquini, pese a partir de la pole, perdió su primera plaza al ser adelantado por Muller mientras que por detrás le apretaban Thompson, Müller y Priaulx. Las posiciones de la carrera no cambiaron hasta el final.
Jordi Gené ha terminado la primera carrera en sexta plaza justo por delante de Augusto Farfus y Colciago.
Olivier Tielemans ha logrado, además, su mejor resultado de la temporada al terminar noveno en el Segundo Alfa Romeo, por delante de Tiago Monteiro y Robert Huff, único piloto de Chevrolet en acabar la carrera.
El joven piloto ruso Timur Sadredinov, ha debutado con un prometedor 13er puesto en la general y segundo en el campeonato independiente.

Sáez Merino listo para debutar en la F3 Euroseries Euroseries 3000 23/08/2007 - 20:00

El valenciano Manuel Sáez Merino hará su debut este próximo fin de semana en la Euroseries 3000 en el trazado alemán de Nurburgring, después del acuerdo alcanzado con la escuadra italiana Elk Motorsport, por la que el piloto de Campos Fórmula 3 sustituirá al sueco Alx Danielsson en la quinta cita del campeonato. El equipo está interesado también en que el piloto dispute las dos próximas citas en Spa y Monza en el mes de octubre.

Sáez Merino, que durante esta temporada ya tuvo una primera toma de contacto con el monoplaza de la F3000 en Valencia, realizó esta pasada semana un nuevo test, sorprendiendo a los dirigentes de la estructura italiana, que no dudaron en poner su nombre encima de la mesa para sustituir a Danielsson, actual campeón de las World Series para esta próxima cita y que ha rescindido su contrato.

Elk Motorsport es uno de los equipos punteros del campeonato como refleja su segunda posición en la general por equipos y el tercer puesto que hasta la fecha mantiene Danielsson en la clasificación de pilotos.
Sáez Merino de 19 años, que disputa esta temporada con Campos Fórmula 3 el Campeonato de España de Fórmula 3 , donde ha logrado ya una victoria, se enfrentará a la dificultad añadida de no conocer el trazado alemán.

La Euroseries 3000 es un certamen promovido por Coloni y que se disputa con los antiguos chasis Lola de la FIA 3000. Creado a partir del Campeonato de Italia de F3000, desde la pasada temporada adquirió carácter europeo. El campeonato se ha consolidado como trampolín hacia categorías superiores como la GP2 Series como muestra el paso de Roldán Rodríguez y Vitaly Petrov tras disputar la pasada temporada este certamen. Además varios pilotos de la Euroseries 3000 tuvieron la oportunidad de realizar tests de GP2 como Tuka Rocha, Marco Bonanomi y Gavin Cronje, entre otros.

El circuito alemán de Nürburbring fue creado en 1951 y desde entonces ha organizado 36 Grandes Premios de Fórmula 1. Con una longitud de 5,148 Km, y 15 curvas, es un trazado construido sobre parte del mítico Nordschliefe, circuito de más de 22 Kilómetros inaugurado en 1927 y que acogió el GP de Alemania hasta 1976.

Mañana viernes comenzarán los entrenamientos libres, con dos sesiones de 10:10 a 10:40 y de 16.00 a 16:30 horas, mientras que el sábado se disputará de 9:15 a 9:45 la sesión de calificación que determine la parrilla de la primera carrera, prevista a partir de las 15:25 horas, en la que los pilotos deberán de dar un total de 14 vueltas al trazado alemán, La segunda carrera, está programada para las 11:55 horas del domingo, a un total de 18 vueltas.

Sáez Merino: “Estoy muy contento por esta oportunidad que se me brinda y espero aprovecharla al máximo. Los tests fueron muy bien y ahora tenemos la ocasión de disputar algunas carreras, aunque soy consciente de la dificultad ya que además debutaré en Nurburgring, un circuito en el que nunca he rodado, lo que supone una motivación extra para dar lo mejor de mí y demostrar mi nivel”.

Germany fastest in Silverstone test

A1 Team Germany started the 2007/08 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport season as it finished it – at the top of the timesheets.

Following Nico Hulkenberg’s victory in the Feature race at Brands Hatch in April, new German driver Christian Vietoris took the fastest time in the first official pre-season test at Silverstone International Circuit this week.

Vietoris’ time of 1m 10.005s, set in this morning’s session, puts the best from last year’s official test at the same circuit into the shade. A1 Team Malaysia’s Fairuz Fauzy set the best last year, with a lap half a second slower.

‘We have tried some things and also today, and we finished quite good,’ Vietoris said. ‘Being first is always a good start into the season and we have tried some good things and found some good solutions. It takes a bit of time but it’s getting better and better.’

A1 Team South Africa’s Adrian Zaugg had held the record at the end of yesterday test day, but Vietoris’ lap was considerably quicker.

Great Britain’s Robbie Kerr set a lap 0.247s seconds slower than Vietoris, but with far less track time.

Kerr had only half a day in the British car, but was still bang on the pace.

‘I had to just go out there and test the car and see what its handling like and get used to it once again after Brands Hatch,’ Kerr said. ‘It’s great to be back in the A1GP car, to be second quickest is particularly good because I only had this morning and one set of tyres compared to the others that had more running time. I’m really looking forward to the start of the season and can’t wait to get back in the car at again.’

Switzerland’s Sebastien Buemi was also quick with just half a day’s running, recording what proved to be the third fastest time of the week in the same session as Kerr.

Zaugg’s first day pace-setting time was good enough for South Africa to secure fourth overall ahead of A1 Team France. Nicolas Lapierre’s lap from yesterday morning was good enough for the position, with the 23-year-old getting back in the groove quickly having not sat in A1GP car since the Indonesian A1GP round at Sentul in December 2006.

A1 Team New Zealand, runner-up last season, was sixth quickest with Jonny Reid, and an impressive performance from Ireland rookie, Adam Carroll, gave it the second fastest time.

Joao Urbano, who continued to improve as he got more laps in for A1 Team Portugal, with the eighth fastest time ahead of Sergio Jiminez for Brazil.

Narain Karthikeyan’s performance from yesterday was good enough for tenth in the newly-liveried India car. However, after suffering a high temperature and fever, he sat out the second day.

Biofuel performance gets thumbs up

The test driver who has been developing A1GP’s biofuel car reckons there is no drop off in performance when compared with the standard A1GP car.

Series officials announced this week that from this season, A1GP cars will use a 30 per cent biofuel mix, which has meant some modifications to the engine and its software mapping.

Former British F3 champion Jonny Kane was drafted in to help test and develop the technology, and he believes that despite the switch to biofuels, the quality of car performance will not decrease.

‘The car still feels responsive and it still feels powerful,’ said Kane, who was present at this week’s official Silverstone test running the biofuel car.

‘It feels like a normal racing car and aspirated engine. All the characteristics are exactly the same. Nothing will change for the drivers – it doesn’t feel slow or anything like that.

‘I’ve been doing long runs in the car. A1GP should get more than 70 minutes out of this fuel tank and engine combination, easy.’

Each car will require roughly a day’s work to make the necessary biofuel modifications. All cars will be running on the biofuel mix from the second pre-season test, at Silverstone on 18 – 19 September.

Vietoris plays down test pace

Christian Vietoris has played down the significance of his pace in this week’s official pre-season Silverstone test – despite smashing the A1GP record at the circuit.

Vietoris, who will be A1 Team Germany’s main driver this season, drove around the 2.3-mile International Circuit in 1m 10.005s – nearly half a second quicker than the best time from last year’s test at the same venue.

It again proved that no matter who is in the Germany car – the team always seem to be near the top.

However, the 18-year-old reckons it is too soon to know whether his team will be a pace-setter all season long.

‘Basically, we started on the first day with a good set-up and tried a few things,’ Vietoris said. ‘Then we tried some good solutions to improve the set-up on the next day and I did the lap when I had new tyres on and it was good.

‘There was no traffic and no mistakes and it was just a good lap.’

‘It’s definitely a good start but it’s too early to say whether this is significant. It’s just testing and ultimately it doesn’t matter because it’s just testing.

‘But at the moment we are on the top which is good for us and motivating for me.’
